Who We Are

Folk and Contemporary Art Pafiou is a non-profit cultural organisation based in Cyprus, founded in 2024. The organisation was established to promote and support both folk and contemporary artistic practices, recognising their capacity to foster dialogue, participation and meaningful connections between people and communities. Working across disciplines and contexts, we develop cultural initiatives that bring together artists, educators, communities and independent spaces through collaborative and socially engaged artistic processes.

Our Mission

Our mission is to create opportunities for artistic participation that connect cultural heritage with contemporary forms of expression. We seek to support artistic practices that are accessible, community-oriented and responsive to the social realities of the environments in which they take place. Through our activities, we encourage exchange between generations, disciplines and communities, while promoting art as a space for encounter, reflection and collective experience.

What We Stand For

The organisation is committed to: promoting and showcasing both folk and contemporary arts, independently and in dialogue with one another; supporting artists and artistic initiatives that engage directly with communities; encouraging participation and shared authorship through inclusive creative processes; strengthening cultural life in rural, inland and underrepresented communities; developing collaborations between artistic, educational and scientific fields; cultivating values of solidarity, empathy and social responsibility through cultural practice.

The Travelling Artist

Inspired by the historical figure of the travelling artist, whose practice moved across communities carrying stories, knowledge and artistic expression, we embrace mobility as both a practical and symbolic dimension of our work. We believe that artistic practice should not remain confined to established cultural centres, but should actively reach people and places where opportunities for cultural participation are limited. Through this approach, art becomes a means of connection, exchange and community engagement.
